Welcome... to the Autumn 2023 edition of The Collection I’ve spoken before about pivotal years in the property market, the last being 2019 when the election of a majority Government heralded such a market boom that not even the dreaded Covid could suppress. Few would argue that 2023 has been another pivotal year which has reversed some of the value-gain seen in the preceding three years. But is it all bad? Absolutely not. The Halifax Bank recently reported that, even with higher mortgage rates, property was now more affordable than at the peak of the market, a fact not lost on many of our buyers this year. Of course, price is key. The exodus of many landlords, due to tighter regulations and the potential end of ‘no-fault’ evictions, has been well reported. It’s quite right that tenants should be protected from rogue landlords and unsafe accommodation but the squeeze on rental supply has resulted in much higher rents for tenants. As always, our accomplished lettings team are here to advise. In these times, many of our clients prefer a more discreet marketing approach.
